Carthage Gets Back On Track

Carthage wanted to redeem themselves for a poor performance from this past Thursday and for the most part they did. They came out and moved the ball well throughout the game and created several scoring chances. Carthage had trouble capitilizing on many of them, but still managed to come away with a 3-0 victory over the Willard Tigers.

JV won 2-0.

Carthage Handled By Catholic

Thursday night’s matchup between Carthage and Springfield Catholic was a very one sided affair. Catholic came out hard and scored a goal in the first 2 minutes. The tigers started to play a little bit and gain some possession, but it didn’t last too long. Catholic scored their 2nd goal in the 34th minute and added 1 more in the 40th. Carthage had a lackluster second half and the game finished 5-0.

In JV action, the 2 teams tied 0-0.

Carthage defeats Ozark in PK’s

Carthage improved their overall record to 10-1 and 3-0 in COC play with a victory over the Ozark Tigers on Tuesday night. Carthage came out flat in the 1st ten minutes and Ozark was able to capitalize by earning a pk. After about 15 minutes of play Carthage was able to finally get their legs under themselves a little bit and they started to move the ball a little better and they started to play. They created some good opportunities, but didn’t capitalize. In the second half Carthage controlled possession and created several more opportunities, but couldn’t find the net. Ozark broke through with about 22 minutes left and scored on a counter-attack. Carthage struck back moments later to get the score to 2-1. 5 minutes later Carthage evened the score at 2 a piece. Carthage had an opportunity to end the game with a minute left. They earned a pk, but it was blocked by Ozark’s keeper. In overtime it was more of the same. Carthage created some opportunities and Ozark had 1 or 2 chances as well. Overtime ended 2-2. Pk’s had to go to 6 shooters, but Carthage was finally able to end the game there and excape with the win. Overall it was a pretty underwhelming performence from Carthage. They did not play anywhere near their capabilities.

Carthage JV Wins Tournament

The Carthage JV won the Carthage JV tournament.

They won their opening round match against Cassville 3-1.

They beat Springfield Catholic 2-1 (pk’s) in the semi-final.

They closed the tournament by defeating the Joplin Eagles 1-0 in the finals.

Carthage Takes 3rd at Parkview Invitational

Carthage opened the weekend by beating Kearney 1-0. It was a tough game. Kearney played very hard and they played good defense. They were able to create a couple of opportunities to score. Carthage scored in the first 10 minutes and held on for the victory.

Carthage lost their 1st game of the season in the semifinals against Farmington. It was a good game with a lot of back and forth action. Carthage lost their focus for too many stretches in the game and it cost them. Final score was a 2-1 loss in overtime.

Carthage came back that afternoon to defeat the West Plains Zizzers 9-1.

This past weekend the Carthage Tigers won the Nixa Invitational. On Friday, the team defeated Greenwood 1-0 in the 3rd minute of overtime. Carthage came out flat in this game. They lacked focus and didn’t play sharp. Greenword worked hard and created some chances for themselves throughout the game, but Carthage finally put enough focus together to score the game winner. On Saturday morning Carthage defeated Neosho 9-1. Saturday evening Carthage beat a very strong Nixa team 1-0 in the finals. It was a great back and forth game. Possession and shots were about even. Carthage scored in the 35th minute whenever Joe Curti scored a header off of a corner kick from Victor Lopez. The defense was able to put in a great performance in the second half to keep Nixa from scoring. Carthage is now 7-0. Their next game is Friday against Kearney in the Parkview Shootout.

Carthage Beats Glendale

Thursday Night’s home opener was a big test for Carthage. They came out strong in the 1st 10 minutes, but lost control of the game whenever Glendale picked up their defensive pressure. Glendale scored a goal off of a corner kick shortly after they took control of the game. It took Carthage a little while to adjust to the pressure, but whenever they did they retook control of the game and tied the game in the 51st minute. They took the lead in the 64th minute by scoring off of a corner. Carthage received a scare whenever Glendale sent a shot off the crossbar with less than 2 minutes left. Carthage added the clinching goal in final seconds.

Carthage Moves to 3-0

Last night the Carthage Tigers faced a local rival in the Neosho Wildcats. The tigers came out on top 10-0.

The JV Tigers won their game 6-0.

The next game is against Glendale on Thursday at home.

Carthage Now 2-0

The Carthage Tigers improved their record to 2-0 after a 6-0 victory over the Webb City Cardinals.

The next game is next Tuesday at Neosho. The JV game will start at 5:00 with Varsity following.

Carthage Opens Season With A Win

The Carthage Tigers opened their season with a 4-1 victory over the Parkview Vikings. Carthage came out flat and disorganized and Parkview capitalized by scoring 2 minutes into the game. Carthage played a pretty poor first half and they failed to ever get into a good rythm. They did even up the score in the 32nd minute whenever Ismael Serratos scored off of a rebounded shot.

In the second half, Carthage finally settled in a started to play a little bit better. They controlled possession for a good portion of the half, but had trouble scoring early. Parkview’s goalie made some very good saves throughout the game. In the 55th minute Carthage took the lead when Manny Marquez sent a cross the Carlos Luna headed into the back of the net. Carthage finished the game by scoring two more goals in the final five minutes of the game. Both goals were scored by Serratos. One of them was assisted by Walter Avalos.

The Tigers continue their season Thursday night when they travel to play Webb City.
