Tuesday April 13th

Lady Tigers came out flat and on their heels in the beginning of our game with Neosho on Tuesday night. They soon turned it around and began to play like they are capable of playing. A big factor in this turnaround was Ashley Hiedlage being subbed in to the midfield. She brought tons of energy and hard work that the girls were lacking. Her energy was infectious and the Lady Tigers began to attack and push the Lady Wildcats into their own end. We had several scoring opportunities that we were just a step off. In the second half we opened the half attacking and almost got a goal, but the ball bounced wide. The Lady Tigers kept up the pressure and in the 65th minute Braylee Vasquez hit a half volley over a crowd and into the upper 90 of the goal. The Lady Tigers then withstood several attacks by the Lady Wildcats with Phylicia (The Wall) Lewis coming up with her patented big saves to hold on for the win. Beating a team like Neosho is a big step for this program and raises the expectations of our Lady Tigers.
The JV lost in another close call that saw several chances for them to score, but in the end Neosho snuck in a goal and beat the Lady Tigers.

March 5th – March 10th

On March 5th
Carthage JV lost to Carl Junction 1-0 in a one half game. The girls played hard, but could not pull off a win vs. CJ.
Carthage Varsity Beat Carl Junction 3-2 in a comeback victory after going down 2 goals early in the game. The Lady Tigers battled back to tie the score at half time and put the game winner in early in the second half.

March 6th
Carthage JV lost to Ozark 2-0. The JV Lady Tigers played much better and started to play as a team.

Varsity lost 4-0 to Ozark. In a very windy game the Lady Tigers played a hard game in which they did not allow the Ozark Tigers to get into a rhythm. The Ozark Tigers scored three goals in the first half and one in the second half.

March 8th
The Lady Tigers beat McAuley 3-1 in a varsity only match in which several JV players got to get some valuable experience. Carthage Goals were scored by Jamileth Henriquez (2) Ashley Shannon (1)

March 10th
The Lady Tigers travelled to Springfield to compete in the Greenwood Classic.
In the First game the Lady Tigers had trouble getting going and ended up losing to Greenwood 4-0.
In the Third place game the Lady Tigers came out playing hard and showed how they can play. They beat Central 3-0 in a game that we create a lot of opportunities. The goals were scored by Jamileth Henriquez (2) and Tristan Bass (1).
The Lady Tigers are now 4-5 and will face Neosho on Tuesday April 13th @ 5:00 in Carthage.

FIRST WIN!!!!!!

Thursday night The Lady Tigers Junior Varsity made history by winning the programs first game. They began to work more as a team and move the ball around setting up 3 goals by Astrid Reyes. The Junior Varsity worked very hard and earned this win with good team play.

Thursday night was a night of first for our Varsity Lady Tigers also. Starting things off was Phylicia Lewis’s first shutout victory of the season. She did it with great positioning and a defense that limited the Lady Hornets offense all night. The Girls scored their first goal of the season after several close calls and a lot of good passing the girls finally got their first goal. Mandolin Smith started it off with a great cross that put the ball in a dangerous place. Then after several shots and deflections Ashley Shannon and Tristen Bass won the scramble and the ball finally made it to the back of the net. Neither of them can tell you who scored it, but both are glad that it went in. To make the goal an even bigger accomplishment it was scored going into the wind. The Lady Tigers spent a lot of time the first have trying to develop runs and passing to get a goal, but could not do it. In the second half the continued the pressure and it paid off in the 65th minute.

The Lady Tigers are in action again
Monday vs. Carl Junction @ 5:00 JV first
Tuesday vs. Ozark @ 5:00 JV first
Thursday vs. McAuley @ 5:00 in Joplin
Saturday
1:30 vs. Greenwood @ Cooper Sports Complex in Springfield
3:30 vs. TBA @ Cooper Sorts complex in Springfield

Joplin Game

Tuesday March 30th The Lady tigers travelled to Joplin to take on the Lady Eagles. In our first big test of a district opponent, the lady tigers played well but came up on the wrong side of a 0-2 score. The Lady Eagles score two goals in the first half to seal the victory. The Lady tigers did a lot of things well during the game, but had a lot of trouble when we attacked the goal. We had several chances to score and could not put the ball in the back of the net. We learned a lot from this game and are very close to start putting it all together and playing a solid game on both ends of the field.
The JV lost 0-1 in a good game that saw many good things happen. The JV was very close to pulling off its first victory of the season. I am hoping they will be able to make some history very soon.

Lady Tigers Show Great Improvement…..

On Friday March 26th the Lady Tigers Traveled to Springfield to take on a very good Parkview Lady Vikings team. The game started out with our girls playing very well and holding the Lady Vikings to outside shots. Our defense did a good job of playing good team defense. Our girls passed the ball much more accurately and actually moved the ball well the entire game. We pressed into Parkview’s end and did a nice job of moving up the field as a team. I am very proud of the girls in this game. It is easy to give up when you are faced with a big challenge, but they fought hard and never quit.

The JV team also looked much improved and is really coming along fast. Although they lost their game also they played a very good game.

Schedule Updated

There have been a few changes to the Girls Schedule
1st on 4/1 the girls will play Hillcrest at home start with JV at 5:00

2nd The game on 3/30 will start at 4:30 not 5:00.

The Girls come up short at Logan-Rogersville

Monday March 22nd

On a beautiful and warm spring day the Lady Tigers took the field against Logan-Rogersville. The game started off as expected for the first game of the year and each side was trying to find their rhythm. The Lady Wildcats had the better of the passing in the first half as the Lady Tigers defense was tested by them several times. Our defense did a great job of holding off the Lady Wildcats and every scoring chance they had in the first half. Phylicia Lewis came up with several key stops to keep them out of our net. In the second half the Lady Tigers came out more organized and started to put some pressure on the Lady Wildcats, but could not finish any of their chances. Jamileth and Jessica worked hard, but could not find the answer to the Lady Wildcats Defense. After two overtimes and neither team being able to score it came down to Penalty Kicks. The Lady Tigers had some trouble with nerves as we failed to convert any PK’s and the Lady Wildcats converted on two and ended the game.
Overall this was a good first game. We learned a lot about who we were and who we want to be. The girls left with a bitter taste in their mouth, and a desire to work harder to pull out those close games. We found some areas to work on, but over all I am proud of all the girls.
The JV team fell 1-0 to the Lady Wildcats JV, but put on a good showing. Ashley Fancher saved a PK and held her own in the goal.

More History for the Girls Soccer Program!

On Friday January 29th in the warmth of the Community Room at SMB Bank Ashley Shannon became the first Girls Carthage Soccer Player to sign a college letter of intent. She will be attending Pratt Community college in Pratt Kansas. Congratulations to Ashley and from your soccer family in Carthage we wish you all the best.
The other side of this coin is that we now have raised the bar for our girls soccer program to another level. With most of our team returning to the field this year, and now our first college signing, I believe we will have to show that we are much improved over our first year and are on our way to be able to compete with the next level of soccer programs. I am looking forward to getting this season started and hope that the girls are ready as well.
Remember we have open gyms every Tuesday and Thursday’s from 3:30 to 4:30.
Please make sure you have a physical on file in Coach Youngworth’s office.
