Our return trip to Branson to take on the Pirates turned out to be a big night for the Lady Tigers. We had talked in practice on Monday about how when we played teams that we matched up with skill-wise we needed to limit our mistakes and take advantage of our opportunities. That is exactly what we did on Tuesday night in Branson. The Lady Pirates had defeated the Lady Tigers Last Friday by a score of 3-2 in a hard fought game on both sides of the ball, but on Tuesday the Lady Tigers showed up for a little revenge. We started the game attacking and winning balls all over the field and our aggressive play was contagious. We limited the Branson girls on touches and kept playing the ball forward into our offensive end. In the 12th minute the Lady Tigers earned a corner kick. Patricia Marin, who has improved her corner kick greatly, took the corner kick and played a good driven ball to the front post that took a bounce off a Branson Player and into the goal. After we scored the Lady Pirates started to press, but the aggressive play of the Lady Tigers smothered many attacks and kept the ball from getting into dangerous positions. The Lady Tigers as a whole played great defense and cleared any ball that could have led to a scoring opportunity. With about 7 minutes left in the first half Jessica Diaz got loose and attacked the goal on the dribble taking a low shot that took a bounce and made it past the Branson Goalie. Jessica scored her second goal of the year and gave the Lady Tigers a 2-0 advantage at halftime. The second half the Lady Tigers kept the pressure on and scored their final goal with one minute left in the game. Jamileth Henriquez collected and scored a rebound from a Jessica Diaz shot that was deflected by the goalie and to the feet of Henriquez. The Lady Tiger won their first conference game, pulled off the programs first shut-out, and earned their second win on the season. The Lady Tigers hope to keep their momentum going on Thursday versus a much improved Carl Junction Team.
Phylicia Lewis (pictured above in the 1st home game) finally gets a stat she can be proud of. Earning her first shut out of the Programs history. She has played very well in the goal for the Lady Tigers this year and has kept us in several games, but had not received the credit she deserved for those games. Congratulations to Phylicia and the entire Lady Tigers team for earning this milestone in the programs history. A shut out is a great accomplishment and it takes and entire team to pull it off.
